Insights

Insights

Koala automatically scans your GSC data and surfaces signals worth acting on — without overwhelming you with noise.

How It Works

Insights are computed from data already loaded for your properties. There are no extra API calls. They update whenever the underlying GSC cache refreshes (every 24 hours).

Each insight has:

  • An observation — what the data shows
  • An action — one concrete thing to check or do
  • A Save as note button — saves the insight directly to your notes, pre-filled and ready to track

Accessing Insights

There are three places insights appear:

1. Inline keyword dots

In the Property Overview table, a small colored dot appears on keyword rows that match a signal. Tap or click the dot to see a one-line summary.

2. Top opportunity card

Above each property's keyword table, a card shows the single highest-priority signal for that property. Dismiss it with the × button if it's not relevant.

3. Global panel

Click the Insights button at the top of the dashboard to open a drawer showing the top 10 signals across all your pinned properties, ranked by estimated impact. Use this to prioritize where to spend time across all your sites.

Insight Types

Signal What It Means
Low CTR Ranking in positions 1–10 but getting far fewer clicks than typical for that position. Worth checking title tags and meta descriptions.
Near Page 1 Ranking at positions 8–20 with decent impressions. A small push (internal links, content depth) could land it on page 1.
Declining Clicks dropped 20%+ vs the previous period. Worth investigating — could be ranking, competition, or seasonal.
Position Drop Average position worsened significantly while clicks haven't crashed yet — early warning signal.
CTR Spike CTR increased noticeably while impressions stayed flat. Something may have changed in the search results layout for this query.
Rising Keyword Clicks growing fast from a small base. May be worth creating dedicated content.

Observations Are Signals, Not Diagnoses

Insights show what the data says — they don't explain why. A low CTR might mean a weak title tag, a SERP full of ads, zero-click intent, or strong branded competitors. Use the insight to know where to look, then verify manually before acting.

Dismiss

If an insight isn't relevant to you, hit the × button to dismiss it. Dismissed insights stay hidden for 7 days, then reappear if the signal is still present.

Save as Note

Clicking Save as note on any insight opens the note editor pre-filled with:

  • The keyword
  • A suggested action as the note text
  • The relevant metric (e.g., CTR or position) pre-selected for tracking
  • The current metric value as a baseline

Edit the text before saving if needed. The note will be linked to the keyword so you can review the outcome later.

Saving a note from an insight counts toward the Signal Reader and Opportunity Hunter achievements. If you later review the note and the metric improved, you'll earn Signal to Noise.
